Lojban is a constructed language (artificial natural language). Starting in 1954 James Cooke Brown constructed the language Loglan incorporating as much "logic" as possible, as a contrast to the "illogic" of most natural languages, intending to try to test the Whorf-Sapir hypothesis, which is that the language you use significantly affects the way you think. After a long and at times stormy evolution the major descendant is Lojban. Lojban is now in baseline status, meaning that design changes will not be made until 2002 at minimum, so that people can confidently learn the language.
